1. Correctly close doors and windows.

It may seem obvious, but do not forget to do so when the house is empty on a daily basis or during prolonged absences. Rain, snow and hail can enter through gaps and windows, which can cause water damage or generate air currents that cause doors to slam shut, breaking glass, or items to fall.

Furthermore, there may be a risk of robbery, especially in homes with a low height. In this type of windows, of easy access, it is advisable to install bars that will add protection.

2. Fold away awnings and remove outside furniture.

In the event of absences, it is advisable to fold away awnings and attach garden or terrace furniture, since we do not know if, at a given moment, a storm may begin or gusts of wind will occur that cause damage to your home or to other people.

3. Take care of electrical facilities.

Review the electrical installation frequently and check that the plugs are in a good state, that they do not move or have bare cables or cables in a bad state that may cause a short circuit or even combustion.

Supervise that the plugged-in devices have sufficient ventilation so that they do not overheat (for example, remove the sofa a couple of centimetres from the wall if you have a plug just behind it).

Avoid linking together multi-socket adapters or extension leads. They are items that overheat and they may cause short circuits.

Lastly, trust the professionals to make repairs to the installation.

4. Avoid dripping.

A small amount of water can cause great damage, hence it is recommendable to check taps, stopcocks, radiators, connecting tubes and toilets in the event of small leakages which, in the long term, may become a major breakdown and cause multiple damage.

5. Ventilate your home.

A correct ventilation of the home, especially in periods of cold weather, is highly important to avoid damage due to condensation as a result of temperature differences or, even to avoid overheating or a defective combustion of boilers, which produce expensive or difficult breakages or a bad quality of air within the home.
